Born in Dublin 1782, John Field settled in Russia about 1803 and met with brilliant success as a pianist. He is credited with creating the Nocturne and this beautiful piece is typical of his flowing, lyrical style. Although composed for the piano, it transposes admirably for the clarinet. Intermediate level.
