Mozart composed the ballet music for the ballet “Les Petits Riens” during his third visit to Paris in the Spring of 1778. Initially, the ballet found little favour with Parisian audiences, but success soon followed. On July 9th, Mozart wrote to his father: “This ballet has already had four performances which were greeted with great applause”. The plot is completely incomprehensible, involving the strange goings-on of shepherds and shepherdesses.
